RAILsearch.com Search: The Basics

Plain Query
Searches for documents containing a particular word.
For example, to search for the word Rail, simply type
 
Word List
Searches for documents containing multiple words.
For example, to find all documents containing both Rail and links type
 
Phrase
Searches for exact match of multiple words.....
For example, to find all documents that contain the word Rail followed by the word links type
 
Filter by Site
Allows you to narrow your search to a particular site... Allows search of sites using start or end...
For example, to find all documents containing the word Rail only on www.raillinks.com type
 
Exclude pages containing specified words
Allows you to narrow your search by excluding pages containing specified words or expressions. It is important to put a space before the "minus" sign and leave no space after it.
For example, to find all documents containing the word Rail but not containing word links type
 
Logical OR
Allows you to search for documents containing at least one of the specified words or expressions.
For example, to find all documents containing the word train or trains type
 
Complex expressions
Allows you to search documents for a match to specified complex expressions. Expression can be composed using AND OR | boolean operators, subexpressions can be grouped using parenthesis. Subexpression can be another boolean expression or just a word, pattern, or phrase. Only OR or | operators and parenthesis can be used inside phrase.
For example, to find documents containing either the phrase "toy trains" or the word toytrains on sites matching pattern Raillinks.com, type
